“Words are, in my not-so-humble opinion, our most inexhaustible source of magic. Capable of both inflicting injury, and remedying it.”

-Albus Dumbledore

The English language is a beautiful thing. With it you are equipped with the knowledge and vocabulary to properly articulate your views and opinions effectively. Yes writing essays, can be a pain in the butt, it helps prepare you for the real world, while expanding your communication skills.

I believe that university level English should be a mandatory requirement for entry into all university programs. If University English is a mandatory entry requirement, more students might learn to love reading and writing. This could create more authors! Or maybe a new J.K. Rowling. I fell in love with English through reading (specifically Harry Potter). English class expands your vocabulary and enhances communication skills. You learn how to analyze text, which helps you analyze your peers, co-workers and helps you to understand their views and opinions. No matter what program you go into when you graduate (if you plan on attending university) English enhances your reading and writing skills which will help you achieve high marks on any papers/essays/exams you may wright in the future. You still need to write essays and artist statements in art school. It does not matter what you go to school for, you WILL need the skills you learn in your high school English class. Being properly educated in English will not only let you be successful academically, but also professionally. When you apply for a job, proper understanding of the English language, and how to use it is a requirement. Our world revolves around communication, without it we would be lost.

Even tough you may dread going to English just power through it, because it will be worth it in the end.
